what is cottage life in canada?

i heard its the best life style

Answer
Cottage Life, aside from being the title of a magazine, involves having a cottage, and spending time there, away from your home. Some Canadians have year-round cottages, but most have seasonal cottages.

My cottage is seasonal. Because it is so far away from my home, we typically get there every second or third weekend, spring through fall, for just 2 or 3 days at a time. Most years that means we only actually use the cottage 15-30 days. But some years, I've been able to stay for the entire summer. A couple of years ago, I lived at my cottage from the end of June 'til the middle of October. This past summer (2009), I stayed at the cottage from August 'til the middle of September.

Cottage life for me is extremely relaxed. I own a small island, and my nearest neighbours are at least a kilometre away, by water. I'm at the end of a closed bay, which is all uninhabited Native/Crown land. It is very quiet and peaceful, save the occasional boat of fishermen.

I wake up in the morning and do this and that before getting dressed. I may go swimming or do some gardening. This summer, I made a habit of sitting out on a lounge chair on one of the decks that overlooks the bay. At 3pm, most of that deck is covered by shade, so it's perfect for sitting out and reading a book. At or around 3pm most days, I'd grab something to read and my Harman Kardon portable iPod docking station, and head out to my spot on the deck. (I have to avoid the sun because I'm very fair.) I carried that habit over to my home, when I returned. I live in a beach house on Lake Ontario and have a rear patio with loungers and outdoor "sofas" right next to the water. Because it was so enjoyable and relaxing at the cottage, I would do my afternoon reading session,s listening to music, back here at home. (I don't know why I never did that before.)

At the cottage, we do some boating (in my case, it's our mode of transportation, as opposed to "pleasure boating"), and have bonfires or barbecues. There's a lot of florae and faunae to observe. If I fished, there'd be good fishing to be had.

When we have guests, they tend to bring out all the toys we never seem to use, ourselves. There's an inflatable water trampoline, a dingy, a canoe, windsurfers, boogie boards, and more. Oh, my husband does spend as much free time as possible in the hammock. (There's never enough free time, though.)

Despite the perception of cottages, there is always A LOT of work to be done. The very nature of a residence that goes weeks, sometimes months, without any tending means the few days you are there are full of chores. There are always repairs to done, the lawn has to be mowed, the lawn and gardens weeded, and any renovations to be planned and carried out. (If I have to haul one more load of lumber to the island, I may give it all up!)

When it gets dark, I tend to retreat indoors, to watch television or a DVD, listen to music, or whatever. I had a late-night visitor this past summer, in the form of a metre-long milk snake. It's the first time a snake has made its way into the cottage. I spotted it slithering towards the television, one night. I like snakes, so I was mostly consumed with getting pictures of it. I was pretty excited. Too bad my husband was back at home, at the time. He always misses all the cool stuff.

Well, I'm sure that's TMI. ;-)

In short, having a cottage is nice, although it is a luxury, and expense and, at times, seems like more of a hassle than it's worth. But when I'm there, I wish I could stay longer.

Could I drop a dress size?

water trampolines uk on WaterWorkx Fitness Station best buy at - Europe's No. 1 for home ...
water trampolines uk image

daisyflowe

I'm a size 16 uk. Although my underwear is a 12, I blame my thigh and butt area, since my underwear doesn't sit on my thighs, lol.

If I was to workout, normally, but workout but a main focus of toning my thighs & butt area, do you think it would be possible to drop a dress size (into a 14) in a fortnight?

Answer
Yes, it's possible. A good diet/exercise plan would be:

Breakfast: Cook 9-grain cereal (from health food store) in water with rolled oats and wheat bran. Make a big pot of it on weekends and nuke 1/2 cup each morning. Add low fat milk or yogurt, banana, walnuts and berries. Drink hot Ovaltine. Breakfast should be your largest meal of the day to raise blood sugar level which falls during the night.

Lunch: Egg, tuna or turkey ½ sandwich on whole grain bread with bean or alfalfa sprouts and yogurt w/fruit. If you had meat loaf for dinner, bring a meat loaf sandwich on whole grain bread (NO mayo). On cold days, a squatty thermos of hot chili, split peas with ham, or beef stew.

Snacks: Fresh (not canned) fruit: banana, orange, apple, kiwi, grapes, peach, nectarine, cherries, pineapple. No chips and nothing ever from a vending machine.

Dinner: salad with white meat chicken and fresh (not canned) veggies: tomatoes, 2 kinds of lettuce, 2 kinds of shredded cabbage, shredded or sliced carrots, alfalfa or bean sprouts, zucchini, green or red peppers, hard boiled eggs, brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, tofu, cottage cheese...Instead of dressing, squeeze 1/4 tomato over it.

Or homemade bean/vegetable soups; great way to recycle leftovers.
Or grilled fish with steamed veggies.

Or omelet: In blender, whip together eggs, tofu, cottage cheese, onions, garlic powder. Cook with mushrooms, chopped tomatoes and green or red peppers.

Foods to avoid: junk food, fast foods, pastries, desserts, sugar, salty foods, syrup (even canned fruit in syrup), peanut butter, fat/grease (pork, wieners, chops, bacon, salami, pizza, chips, fries), pasta, potatoes, white bread, rice, canned veggies, ice cream, soda, chips. And of course no tobacco or alcohol in any form. Both of those add wrinkles and destroy your brain. No oil except olive and mac nut. Coffee also rots your brain.

To keep your skin clear, drink water. Veg. juice is good too. But not canned juice (too much sugar.)

Join a gym; they have all the equipment and staff to show you how to use it to get the look you want to achieve. Much cheaper than buying your own equipment. Go hiking, biking, jogging, bowling, swimming, rowing, jump rope, play tennis, badminton, volleyball, soccer, jumping jacks, lift weights, trampoline? To tone your tummy, do sit ups, push ups, pull ups, leg lifts, butt raises and crunches.

If you lack energy, take Super B complex. Try appetite suppressants.

bounce away trampolines?

blondie Xx

aaahh. im looking for a new trampoline but i dont want it to reck the grass n i need it to be bouncy to practice gymnastics on does anyone know about bounce away trampolines are they good where can you get them from e.c.t

Answer
Here is a video that might help. They look pretty neat.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcs9ryLAiBw

You can buy one here:
http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav.jsp?action=detail&fh_oneslice=true&fh_eds=%3F&fh_reffacet=categories&fh_location=%2F%2Fcatalog01%2Fen_GB%2Fcategories%3C%7B9372012%7D%2Fcategories%3C%7B9372022%7D%2Fcategories%3C%7B9372072%7D&fh_refview=summary&fh_refpath=facet_159016185&fh_secondid=11237509

They appear to be made in the UK, so I doubt it would be cost effective to get one to the states. But I sent them an email to see if they have any distributors in the USA.

You could also maybe get one of those water trampolines or bouncers. Then you could inflate it. You won't get as much bounce as a real aluminum frame trampoline, but you could deflate it and pack it up when you are done. Maybe that would work? Something like this:
http://stores.channeladvisor.com/Bargain-Sports/Store/Search.aspx?sck=9874906&Page=1&Sort=5&key=water%20trampoline

Those trampolines are a bit more usually, but would be cool to have if you have a big pool or a lake you could use it in too.

Camping with a 18 month old?

A.J.'s Mom

We are going camping and I was just wondering what people think I should bring with an 18 month old. I have plenty diapers and wipes, milk, and snacks. But what other things should I bring. Oh and I have plenty cloths packed also. Just looking for advice. Thanks =)

Oh and please dont tell me that he is too young and all that. We took him with us when he was 8 months and he loved it, but at that time he wasnt walking and could stay in a play pin

Answer
Camping out is a wonderful way of spending family time. It is also a healthy change of scenery for the little ones. Our family has never thought that kids were too young to go camping, we have just had to have things with us that were appropriate to their ages and activity levels.

We live in Florida where there all sorts of things to do and see so we started our grandchildren in harnesses as soon as they were walking and got umbrella strollers for when they got tired. It ended up being great later on.

It made camping so simple. They had play pens before they walked and then we moved into the harness and stroller mode. Many camping areas have surfaces and paths that can accommodate the lightweight strollers.

But, until they got really heavy, the backpack seat was also useful. The main thing was to have enough things for them to do with their short attention spans. Physical things like walking, climbing and running is good because it wears them out--in a good way. A good nap time and more physical activity gets them tired enough for bedtime.

So, take toys with you that involve activity like collapsible mini basketball hoop and ball, a tyke's mini trampoline, bean bag toss game, arm swimmies in case you go in the water or an inflatable swim seat, small size life vest so that you can go fishing, canoeing or boating--a good hat so that you don't have to worry about a little face getting sunburned, building blocks or that sort of toy so that it's different every time they play with it, and some music that is familiar, or video that is soothing. Don't forget the favorite snuggley friend and blanky, either. If you are reading to your little one, bring favorite books, or buy some new ones as part of the trip experience.

Favorite or familiar things like their own bath towel from home or pillow, or even a special wash cloth and soap are also good to bring along. Keep things interesting so that they don't have to much down time, because they are so active at 18 months. It will be a fine balance between being tired and overtired but don't put your baby in a position to be overwhelmed and all will be well.

You will have so much fun seeing him reacting to his surroundings and having new experiences--and he will be so enriched. Go, have a good time--and then do it again next year!!

What Should be Attention When Start Your Inflatable slides Business

Answer
Bouncy castle and similar structures are temporary inflatable buildings and structures that are rented for functions, school and church festivals and village fetes and used for recreational purposes, mainly used by children. The growth in popularity of moonwalks has led to an inflatable rental industry which includes inflatable slides, obstacle courses, games, and more. Inflatables are ideal for portable amusements because they are easy to transport and store. The name given to such structures varies.

They have been marketed with such names as bounce house, Moon Bounce, Astrojump, Moonwalk, Jolly Jump and Spacewalk. The term "Bounce House" came to popularity with the resurgence of hipster culture in New England. "Pula pula" is another name commonly used by Latinos, which literally means "jump jump". The term 'Jolly Jumps' is often used to describe the inflatable playground structure in rural areas and some areas in the Western US, but the term is otherwise obsolete.

Although they are often aimed at children, adult castles can be hired in the many countries, like UK,US,China,Europe and so on. Because of liability concerns, moonwalks are rarely rented to adults in the US. Historically, names for inflatable structures, particularly in the United States, are composed of two, one syllable words. In the United States the terms that consist of two, one syllable words are popular. In Southern California, another popular term is Closed Inflatable Trampolines, or "CITs". Bouncy Castle or Inflatable Castle are used in Ireland, the UK, New Zealand and parts of Australia, and Jumping Castles in Arizona, Australia, Canada and South Africa.

As a whole the term moon bounce has become a generic term for enclosed inflatable trampolines worldwide. Following the popular of inflatables, more and more countries start a rental business, and the kinds of inflatables more and more day by day. Except bouncy castle, also water slide, inflatable tent, giant inflatables, bounce house for children. Many buyer found that usually people are willing buy one or two pieces of bouncy castle or water slide for their children. So not only to rental inflatble, some big imported especial import some small size family using inflatables.

Actually that brings big profit to importer, becuase inflatable field is few in their country and the cose is very expensive in Europe and America,Australia. Also some advertising company will order the big inflatable tent for sport, like tennis, basketball, football, badmin and so on. In winter many countries will snow, it will effect outdoor sports, but many youngers like outdoor sport in winter. Based on this, some smart merchant found that and place order about tent. One of my clients even order an big size of 30*60*15m for 600 people. At present his business is very good.

7) On an extremely hot day you fill a 12 oz cup half full of (00C) ice and then fill the cup with water which is at room temperature. The water cools down by:
A) Transfer of thermal energy from the ice to the water.
B) Transfer of thermal energy from the water to the ice.
C) The ice melts by absorbing thermal energy from the outside air which cools the water.

8) You are twirling a ball tied to the end of a string around your head. If the string breaks while the ball is directly to your right and moving forward, the ball will go:
A) To the right.
B) Straight ahead.
C) Spiral outward.
D) Spiral inward.

I KNOW THE BALL WILL CONTINUE IN THE SAME DIRECTION I JUST DON'T KNOW WHICH OF THESE OPTIONS DESCRIBES THAT.

9) Keplerâs law T2/a3 works for:
A) The orbits of the earth and the moon
B) The orbits of Mars and a geosynchronous satellite
C) The orbits of Saturn and Titan (a moon of Saturn)
D) The orbits of Venus and Mars.

10) A gymnast bounces upward from a trampoline, then falls back. During the time she is
airborne,
A) her velocity is a constant on the way up, and the way down. Only the direction
of the velocity changes.
B) her velocity changes, and there is no acceleration.
C) both her velocity and her acceleration changes from up to down.
D) her velocity changes and her acceleration is downward

11. You are trying to sleep in an unheated cabin in northern Alaska and everything around you is terribly cold. You can't find a blanket anywhere in the cabin, but you find several rolls of : (a) thick, low-density black paper, and (b) aluminum foil. To keep warmest, what order should you put them in?
A) aluminum foil on the inside, thick black paper on the outside. THIS IS WHAT I THINK
B) thick black paper on the inside, aluminum foil on the outside.
C) aluminum foil only.
D) thin black paper only.

12) You are playing hockey with friends on a very large frozen pond. The hockey puck is at your feet motionless. You take a slap-shot with your hockey stick and the hockey puck goes zooming off at a high rate of speed sliding along the ice. The hockey puck eventually comes to a stop because
A) there is no net forward force on the puck and so it will eventually slow down.
B) friction between the puck and the ice will do enough negative work on the puck to
equal the positive work done by you on the puck.
C) friction between the puck and the ice will do more negative work on the puck than
you did positive work on the puck.
D) friction between the puck and the ice will do less negative work on the puck than you did positive work on the puck.

13) On a cold winter day, you open the bathroom door and step inside. Everything in the room has the same temperature, but the floor tiles feel much colder than the towels hanging inside the room. If you drop one of these towels on the floor, heat will
A) flow from the tiles to the towel for a while and then stop, which makes the towel feel warmer to stand on.
B) flow from the towel to the tiles.
C) flow from the tiles to the towel.
D) not flow between the towel and tiles

Answer
7. B) Transfer of thermal energy from the water to the ice.
8. B) Straight ahead. (many people think the answer is "to the right")
9. Technically, Kepler's third works for all of these, but the only "pair" is D.
10. D) her velocity changes and her acceleration is downward
11. I'd go with B, but you could be right
12. B) friction between the puck and the ice will do enough negative work on the puck to
equal the positive work done by you on the puck.
13. D) not flow between the towel and tiles. (After all, they're the same temperature. The tiles just FEEL colder.)

What makes the planets orbit and not fall in?

Jon Jon

Bare with me:
The sun, for example, is like a bowling bowl sitting on a trampoline. If I place a tennis ball on the tramp somwhere around the bowling ball, the tennis ball will fall immediately to the bowling ball. If I was in a vacuum and did this, I assume, I'd get the same result. If, on the other hand, I rolled the tennis ball around the curve of the trampoline it would (ideally) spin around a few times a fall in closer and closer each time like water in a drain. In a vacuum, though, it creates centrifugal force as it spins and this perfect balance of gravity and centrifugal force keeps the tennis ball (earth) from falling into the sun (bowling ball). Is this all correct so far?
But, what, in space, made the planets begin their orbit of the sun? What I mean is, when the solar system was created it was created by a constant orbit of particles around the sun. But what made them orbit rather than just fall into the sun? Because there was no outside force to start the orbit (like me throwing the tennis ball).

In summary, how is the earth orbiting the sun right now instead of just falling, in a straight line, directly into the sun, immediately, when it was just a bunch of dust in space?

Answer
Well I haven't found a definite answer but have thought about this many times before and have hit upon an empirical which goes as follows.

They say that the Sun was originally a fast spinning ball of fire. It is possible that the planets were lumps that were thrown out of the Sun as molten lumps of lava at that time. these lumps would obviously have been thrown out in a tangential direction (to the surface of the Sun). they would have travelled outwards in that direction. The force of gravity of the Sun would have caused deceleration till a point of equilibrium would have been reached between the motion of the lump (planet) and the gravitational pull of the Sun, thus resulting in the linear motion of the planets turning into orbital motion around the Sun.

This is analogous to the stone at the end of a string being given a tangential thrust to set it revolving about an axis (the fixed end of the thread).

How hot and humid is Houston in the summer?

I'm going to be traveling there in a week or so.. how hot is the weather there and are there any lakes, rivers, places to go swimming besides the hotel pool?

Answer
Today's high is 97 with a heat index of 103 and a low of 77. Humidity ranges between 65% and 84%. It's safe to assume it would remain pretty steady in those temps for the next 2-3 weeks. Rain is hit and miss... it's hurricane season and tropical storms pop up quickly.

Man made water fun: Splashtown water park (20 mins N of down town Houston) or Shlitterbauhn (45 mins or so S of downtown).

Natural water fun (fishing, swimming, camping, boat or jetski rental): Lake Houston (20 mins NE of down town), Lake Conroe (1 hr N of d.t.), Clear Lake (Galveston Bay 45 mins S of d.t.) or Keimah is in the same area. San Jacinto River (20 mins E/NE of d.t.) has several parks off of it that you can swim at such as Loves Marina on Hwy 90 E (camp grounds, pic nick tables with day or overnight options) or Kingwood Park off of WoodlandHills Dr (day access and boat ramps) or probably the most popular, Banana Bend in Highlands, TX (20 mins E of d.t.) to name a couple. In Crosby (20 mins E of d.t. Hou) is Cecil's Water Park, they have man made lakes with water slides, water trampolines, beach volley ball and other fun activities and often have night time events with bands during the summer. I've added the link to their myspace (their myspace background is deceiving since it's also water realted BUT they do have pics on their page).

What are some summer activities for teen couples?
