Camping with a 18 month old?

A.J.'s Mom

We are going camping and I was just wondering what people think I should bring with an 18 month old. I have plenty diapers and wipes, milk, and snacks. But what other things should I bring. Oh and I have plenty cloths packed also. Just looking for advice. Thanks =)

Oh and please dont tell me that he is too young and all that. We took him with us when he was 8 months and he loved it, but at that time he wasnt walking and could stay in a play pin

Answer
Camping out is a wonderful way of spending family time. It is also a healthy change of scenery for the little ones. Our family has never thought that kids were too young to go camping, we have just had to have things with us that were appropriate to their ages and activity levels.

We live in Florida where there all sorts of things to do and see so we started our grandchildren in harnesses as soon as they were walking and got umbrella strollers for when they got tired. It ended up being great later on.

It made camping so simple. They had play pens before they walked and then we moved into the harness and stroller mode. Many camping areas have surfaces and paths that can accommodate the lightweight strollers.

But, until they got really heavy, the backpack seat was also useful. The main thing was to have enough things for them to do with their short attention spans. Physical things like walking, climbing and running is good because it wears them out--in a good way. A good nap time and more physical activity gets them tired enough for bedtime.

So, take toys with you that involve activity like collapsible mini basketball hoop and ball, a tyke's mini trampoline, bean bag toss game, arm swimmies in case you go in the water or an inflatable swim seat, small size life vest so that you can go fishing, canoeing or boating--a good hat so that you don't have to worry about a little face getting sunburned, building blocks or that sort of toy so that it's different every time they play with it, and some music that is familiar, or video that is soothing. Don't forget the favorite snuggley friend and blanky, either. If you are reading to your little one, bring favorite books, or buy some new ones as part of the trip experience.

Favorite or familiar things like their own bath towel from home or pillow, or even a special wash cloth and soap are also good to bring along. Keep things interesting so that they don't have to much down time, because they are so active at 18 months. It will be a fine balance between being tired and overtired but don't put your baby in a position to be overwhelmed and all will be well.

You will have so much fun seeing him reacting to his surroundings and having new experiences--and he will be so enriched. Go, have a good time--and then do it again next year!!

What do one year olds like...please take a look?

My daughter will not be one year for 3 more months BUT I have saved up money since she was born to get her a few nice gifts for her b-day ( January ) and I would like to beat the Christmas rush so I will probably shop sometime this month or next....I just don't have a clue what she'll be doing or what most 1 year olds are into...help! = ) LOL
Thanx

Answer
Lol you're almost as bad as me - my son's 1st is just after xmas and I've almost finished shopping for both now lol!

In summer I went to my friends daughters 1st birthday party and pinched some of the ideas lol. I'll tell you what I've got my son so far - some of it is probably a bit advanced for 12 months but will hopefully be able to be used in the coming months after. I've got him a couple of ride ons - one tiny little spiderman car thing he sits on and rolls along with his feet, and one old fashioned giraffe wooden sit-on with wheels from vertbaudet, and then a little furry rocking horse (all those were listed suitable for 12 months +). Also I've got him a cute hobby horse which he probably won't be able to use until he's walking steadily but never mind! Then I've got him some big plastic trucks and stuff, a phone where you pick it up and every button makes a different sound, a paddling pool, a sand-and-water table with a little plastic watering can and bucket and fork etc. Three big stuffed animals, a little push along crane thing, some skittles, balls, bed time reading books, a little inflatable ball pool, a wooden toy clock, a wooden activity table with those coloured wires with wooden beads on the top, an abacus on one side and some bits you play with on the other sides, and also a little mini trampoline suitable for 12 months plus, it's only tiny (that's an idea I stole lol) a couple of foot wide and it's hardly bouncy at all and only raised slightly off the floor, with a big handle, I know my son will love that as he's always holding on to the bar of his cot and jumping up and down on the mattress and the girl who's party it was loved it! Oh and there's this plastic toy machine thing which blows little balls up into the air for you to catch. That's all I can think of! The rest I'm going to just get a few more smaller teddies and stuff and some little bits and bobs. Good luck, enjoy shopping! :-)

Trampoline vs. Outdoor Pool?

cs_millar

Which one and why?
Thanks.

Answer
Have had both within all my teenage years. I would highly recommend a trampoline over an overground pool, because the pool requires chlorine tablets and daily maintenance. You will also get a better workout with trampolines. Plus the pool you have to have to take apart seasonally.. that becomes extremely tiring after a year.
If you want to cool off with the trampoline, put a sprinkler under it that sprays up... those are always great because the water puts on more weight, and you go higher!

I need help with packing! even tho i travel lots!?

City Ni

okay, so i am going to a water ramps camp in Utah with some people from my ski team. here is what i need to bring.
life jacket
swimsuit and boardshorts
wetsuit
sunblock
athletic shoes
warm clothes (for after jumping cuz the pool is cold)
athletic clothes (for trampoline training)
sunglasses
pajamas
extra clothes for hanging around
extra shoes
and stuff to do on the plane
I have never gone before and i need to know about how much space this will take up. I am a 13 year old girl and i need help packing :)

Answer
Put everything together, put it in suitcases or bags you have laying around and measure. Mostly you can borrow a suitcase for this from a family member or friend, certainly if you do not need it for the real travel.

I think you need to start with your gear, the life jacket and wetsuit, and the warm clothes. I guess that those will mostly fill a fair size suitcase.
You can than fill the corners and other empty spots with your swimsuits, shorts, underwear and so on.

If you are restricted to one suitcase only, you may need to put the rest of your gear in a backpack and carry that on the plane. In that case you should restrict your 'extra clothes for hanging around and extra shoes' to the absolute minimum.
If you can check in two suitcases, make sure they both fall within the size limits, that might mean that you have to put your wetsuit in a different case than your life jacket.

The stuff to do on the plane needs to be in your hand luggage, and should not be too much. Bring an Ipod or MP3 player. A game, which can be an electronic hand held one, like a gameboy, but also a pack of cards. And a book.
And bring a diary and a camera, you may want to buy one of the waterproof one time use camera's, so you can also use it on, in and around the water.
Put your toilet bag in your suitcase, in it you need at least soap, shampoo, tooth brush and paste and a comb. If you have long hair, put a hand full of hair ties in it too.

I think the camp will be a blast, have fun.

Sweet 16th Birthday party?

tigerlily-

My 16th birthday is in October and I have no idea what to do. Most of my friends have really laid-back parents that let them go clubbing until 4 am (I live in Cyprus where people just don't give a damn and IDs might as-well not exist). I have been to a few of these parties. After the most recent one, however, I had a bit of a hang-over and my mum found out I'd been drinking & stayed out way after my curfew. So there's no way I'd be able to go to a club for my birthday.

I have no idea what to do. I'm not allowed a house party but I'm allowed around 20 people over. I have a pool (which might be too cold in October), a trampoline & a large garden. My friend suggested getting a big gazebo/tent type thing & having a party in there then maybe set up sleeping bags in the gazebo. I'm just worried that compaired to all the club parties, mine will be boring.

Any ideas or tips will be very welcome!!! =D

Answer
get a big white ten thing that fits over ur whole yard and put up lights everywhere, have big table of food and if you can, get a DJ.
If not then ask your friends to give you some music suggestions then burn a CD with your and your friends' favourite songs. Play it on a CD player outside or, if you have one, a surround sound system.
Make it like a V.I.P. thing and have VIP passes as your invitations(if ur giving out invitations). Have a guest list and have one of you parents stand at the door with the list to make sure only ur 20 friends get in.(ur parents will like that idea cause it helps limit the numbers.) Also make a big sign 2 put on the door that says (ur name)'s VIP Party.
Where white and ask all your friends to wear white too. everyone will look amazing all together.
if you can, it'd be really cool if you could get two large planks of wood and put them together across your pool, like a bridge and put lights on the edges (it looks really cool)

if you can't do a bridge then get some white plastic plates and put lit candles on them and have them floating on the water in your pool and get some flowers and have the pedals floating in water with the candles. It will look amazing and u can't compare that to a club.

Put lights all around your trampoline to.

Have a "NO going in the pool" rule cause it will be really cold

If you have enough room then have a "dance floor" area

After everyone else leaves, have a few close friends sleepover. Watch some movies, eat some popcorn, talk and have fun.

Good Luck, Party Hard and Have a Blast!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. can u please help me with my question????:

What can three kids (ages 10-12) play outside to keep them busy for a long time?

Jo Jo

Ok so I was just wondering. What can my three kids play outside that will keep them busy? Two are 10 &one is 12. They have a trampoline to do stuff on, a swing set &lots of grass. Suggestions on any games?!

Answer
You could add some new accessories to their swing set. We recently added a rock climbing wall and money bars, which added a new element of fun. The website below also has some outdoor games, like a really cool inflatable basketball set and soccer game. They also have a giant outdoor chess set that looks fun.

A cute sweet sixteen/ Quince party theme?!?!?!?

katieandpe

i need a cute party theme : )

Answer
Sweet Sixteen Themes and Party Ideas:

Coming up with the perfect sweet sixteen theme doesn't have to be hard! Many times the best themes are right under your nose! Think about the best parties that you have been to, or seen on TV. Start with the sweet sixteen decorations and favors and work out from there if you are a visual person. These parties probably had a very cohesive theme to them, or felt like a good fit for the person having the party. Your party should be personal representing you, your likes, and what is most important to you for the party.

Dance Party: This is by far the most popular party theme. It's the most popular for a reason, if you find the right entertainment it can be the most fun of all the different party types. Think about your school dances, many schools only have two per year of which you may only be allowed to attend one! But everywhere you look you see other people having dances on TV or in movies. Dances allow you to throw your own party just like an adult where you can have a blast with all of your closest friends. If you find a DJ who specializes in sweet sixteen's with lights, games and contests you (or your parents) don't have to worry about anything except showing up, picking out the right music and having a blast with all of your friends! The right DJ should make sure everyone is involved and keep the party going all night.

Rock Band, DDR or Guitar Hero Theme Party: Why not take the games you play with your friends to the next level? Setup a screen, rent some lighting and speakers and have a real rock championship to determine the best Rock Band, Guitar Hero, or DDR players. Setting up a tournament with brackets and themed prizes can make your sweet sixteen party a blast!

Outdoor Movie Party: Having your party outdoors can be awesome for you and your friends to take in the great summer weather and watch a movie together. You can rent all the equipment you need to have a massive screen in your backyard or by the pool so you can all watch a movie together or make a movie night out of it. Having games and party favors within the theme can help turn it into an awesome party.

Pool Party: Pools are a great way for your friends to relax and hang out in the pool. Hiring a DJ to keep the music going and to incorporate the pool into the evening with contests and games can be a really great party during the summer. You can setup a giant inflatable movie screen next to the pool to show the movies on, or have a volleyball net or basketball hoop if you don't already have one for the pool.

Roller Skating/Ice Skating Party: Having an activity to focus on throughout the night is important if you don't like being the center of attention the whole night. It makes it easy for everyone to have a great time from your really outgoing guests, to friends who need a little help getting into the party. Having a roller or ice skating party can be a great theme option. Many rinks have a lot of creative ways to enhance your party. Having a local band or a DJ can also be a great way to kick up a party to the next level.

Lake Party: If you have a lake or campground near you, these parties can be the most memorable parties and weekends of your life. Most larger lakes have boats or pontoon boats that you can rent, or you can rent jet skis to have a blast with all your friends for your birthday party! Some lakes you can even combine pontoon boats with a dance party if the lake is big enough! You can also look into water trampolines, these can help turn your sweet sixteen party into the party of the year!

Scavenger Hunt: Having all of your friends show up ahead of time and surprising the birthday person with a party and then going out on a scavenger hunt can be an awesome party idea! It gives everyone something to do as well as adding competition into the night. Theme each stop after something that the birthday person likes or reminds you of them. You can do photo or video hunts or hunt for physical objects around town. Have the final location be a secret until you have found all the clues, then everyone can meet up at the final location to really celebrate your party with everyone together!
Once you've determined the type of party that you would like to have, then you start need to thinking about sweet sixteen decorations, djs, photography, and venues to host your party. These are all very important and finding the right combination can mean the difference between an amazing party and the worst night of your life!

What is the best water trampoline? 10 points for best answer!?

gymnast

my family is buying a house on a lake and i have always dreamed of having a water trampoline. My birthday is in july and i was hoping to use this to my advantage. I am a competitive gymnast and i need the most jumping room for under $400. i would prefer a new one but i know that is hard with my price range. 8 feet of the actual trampoline part will not be enough for me. My dad is hard to convince he needs to have lots of research to even think of buying one. To maximize my chances of actually getting one i need to do a ton of research so he doesn't have to, so please add links. Thank you for your help!

Answer
The following is a list of many of the frequently asked questions about water trampolines.

Q: What is the difference between a water trampoline and a water bouncer?

A: A water trampoline and a water bouncer have a few distinct differences. Water bouncers tend to be smaller, less expensive and also do not produce as high of jumps. This is because water bouncers have netting that is attached directly to the inflation tube whereas water trampolineâs netting is attached by springs to a frame which allows for higher bouncing and can support heavier weight loads.

Q: How do you inflate a water trampoline or bounce platform?

A: The most common method for inflation is using a shop vacuum as they have a high air flow rates. The shop vac should attach to the adapter that comes with most water trampolines, water bouncers and accessories. There are also pumps available for inflation of your water trampoline of choice. We do NOT recommend using an air compressor to inflate your water trampoline as over inflation can damage the tube.

Q: What type of warranty comes with water trampolines?

A: The warranty differs depending on which brand of water trampoline you choose. Most brands come with at least a one year warranty as long as the product has not been used for commercial purposes. We suggest you check with the bradnâs home webpage to find out the specific warranty.

Q: How much and how long does it take to ship a water trampoline?

A: Right now we are offering free shipping on all water trampolines. Shipping will take approximately 7-10 business days. For more information on this check out our shipping page located at the bottom of our homepage.

Q: Do all Rave products need to be anchored and if so how?

A: Water bouncers and water trampolines do need to be anchored. The smaller water bouncers should be anchored with a simple D-ring anchor or a weight over 20 pounds will suffice. Water trampolines require a weight of over 60 pounds and bell anchors are recommended. Additional information is provided in the ownerâs manual that is provided with your purchase.

Q: Should bouncers wear life vests?

A: Yes, safety is key in enjoying any water trampoline or water bouncer. No matter how deep the water is life vests should be worn at all times.

Q: Where is the form for the free attachment located on your site?

A: There is a link to the form for a free attachment located on the homepage of the website in the top right corner.

Q: Can water trampolines be left out in the water?

A: Most people leave water trampolines out for an entire season and take them out during the colder months. Two things to consider are local regulations about anchoring in your area and the wind speeds around your area. Water trampolines or other products should not be anchored in the water during wind speeds exceeding 15 miles per hour.

Q: Are water trampolines repairable or patchable?

A: Most product come with a repair kit and instructions on how to patch up holes. The kit contains adhesive and extra piece of fabric along with a comprehensive instruction manual. Other parts may need to be replaced in time such as springs or the jump surface.

Q: Can water trampolines be used on land?

A: Yes, but only on grassy even surfaces. it should not but used on gravel or rocks. A water trampoline will not have the bouncing abilities of a land trampoline because it is meant to be used in the water and the tube will absorb most of the energy.

Q: How deep should the water be when using a water trampoline?

A: A water trampoline or water bouncer should never be used in less than six feet of water in order to prevent any injuries.

Q: How long is total set up time?

A: Total set up time ranges depending on which product you purchase. Water bouncers require only inflation which typically takes a maximum of thirty minutes while water trampolines can take a bit longer because the assembly of the fame and jumping surface is required.

I have provided a link to a plethora of information on water-trampolines and bouncers.

Help finding a Movie (Don't know the Title)?

Dakota D

Okay I don't know the title of it and it's been a very long time since i've seen it. Here's What I do remember I remember the movie opened with a male Gymnast working out, there was using the bars and jumping on the trampoline for a while.I also remember later in the movie a dark haired girl gets either beat up or hurt in a horse stable. The Last thing I remember is a woman saying "What what everywhere but not a drop to drink" I know I was very young when I saw it but I don't know how old I was at the time or how old the movie is. I'll try to remember anything else I can but hopefully someone will know the movie Im talking about

Answer
hi there,

the line you mention is "Water Water Everywhere and not a drop to drink", its from "The Rime of The Ancient Mariner" a poem by Samuel Taylor Coleridge
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rime_of_the_Ancient_Mariner_in_popular_culture
(but there have been many adaptations - see under "Film")

but maybe this info can help some other forum member in finding the right movie

toy story theme party game ideas for 3 year olds?

Sam

We are having a toy story themed party for our three year old son and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for games revolving around the theme. So far I have thought of "pin-the-badge on Sheriff Woody", "lassou toss(ring toss), and water balloon fight(although off-theme). Any ideas would be helpful, thanks!

Answer
Before I read the description, I thought "Pin the Tail on Rex". Sheriff Woody works too. If you can't find an actual pre-made version, pick a coloring-page picture from Toy Story online and blow it up to a poster size. Then cut off the tail and use it as a tracer to make however many more tails you need and then color it all with markers and use double-sided tape to stick them on. Pin the Eye on the Alien would be easy too. Paint an alien with two eyes and have them try to place the 3rd in between. Or Stick the Utility Belt on Buzz.

Make rattlesnakes. You could use paper towel tubes or pop bottles or whatever. Use dry beans for the insides. Cover the outsides with construction paper that they can decorate and make heads ahead of time. Cover the openings with tape. I just made this up. You can be more creative than this and elaborate.

Play Marco-Polo with your rattlesnakes. Instead of Marco, the person blindfolded would shout "Howdy!" and everyone else has to shake their rattlesnakes. To be safer, have verbal tagging only. So whoever is "it", has to guess where the closest person is.

Make stamps out of potatoes and have them make a picture with the paint. To make a potato stamp, you cut a potato in half, make an outline of your design with a pen, and then cut the rest out with a sharp knife.

Make "galaxy water bottles". A water bottle filled with 1/2 oil, 1/2 water, blue food coloring, glitter, confetti, etc and glued shut.

Have them search for moon rocks (glass plant rocks) in a sandbox.

Space station - Outside play house or a bouncy castle if you can afford it (and have the room)

Play games with balls and rename them. "Pass the planet" or "Alien Toss" can be the usual "Hot Potato" for example. You could also play this with a sponge full of water.

Trampolines (Moon Walk)

Race battery operated jeeps

Create a mini obstacle course with any of the things from this list or things you make up yourself.

Rocket Launch Pad (Swing Set)

Galaxy Swim (Swimming Pool filled with silver confetti stars)

Frisbees (Flying Saucers)

Call your water balloon fight a "Meteor Shower"

Planet Pop - Race to pop as many balloons as you possibly can by sitting on them. Whoever has the most balloon tabs wins.

Create their own Mr. Potato Heads (either with foam or paper - pre-make all the body parts so they just pick which ones they want and glue)

Pass the Space Rock - Get a Toy Story toy and wrap it up in tin foil. Pass the rock around the circle until the music stops. Whoever has it in their hands at that moment gets to unfold one layer of tin foil. The person to unwrap the last layer wins a prize.

Build Their Own Universe - Get Plastic Tubes with lids and have the kids filled them with water, blue food coloring, glitter and planet shaped confetti, and a few drops of baby oil. When you shake them, the planets swirl.

Lay out a big sheet of bubble wrap (Home Depot) and have the kids "walk across the moon"

Helpful ideas for a lake waterpark?

Baby Shes

We are turning our lake into a fun place to go bbq on the weekends and to swim. If you were to go to a place such as this, what kind of things would you want to see? I want to get more ideas from different people, we already are getting a zipline, rope swing and a floating dock for out in the lake.

Answer
I Personally Think You Should Have A Trampoline In The Water, And Multiple Inflatables In The Water, Like Those Rock Climbing Things. Also You Should Look Into Purchasing A "Blob" Like Most Summer Camps At Lakes Have.

Can you rent a huge trampoline?

<3 <3 <3

I am having a sweet 16 with my friend and we do not have many ideas for our party that will work, but one idea that we came up with was to rent a HUGE trampoline and put it across my backyard. Does anyone know where we can get one or a huge open jump thing (like a bounce house, but bigger and without tall walls). Also, if you have any ideas for themes (that are not too expensive) that would also be helpful. Thanks!
We live in NJ if that helps

Answer
If you or your friend's family owns property near a beach or a lake, you could probably rent a water trampoline (those get up to 25 feet around, and I can include a couple of links in my sources for you to browse through). Those are pretty good if you're planning on a fairly large party. Or, you know, it may even be possible to put one of these on land if you or your friend have a particularly large, flat backyard. Trouble is, I've never heard of anyone doing that before, and you have to consider that these are inflatable trampolines right here, so make sure there's nothing around that's capable of blowing a hole in it.

As for themes, I think that all depends on what you both enjoy--and how many people you're planning on inviting. If you like Italian or sushi, well, there's a dinner idea. If you're one for spas and pedicures, throw 'em in. Movie marathons are usually a good way to bond or pass the time as well. I'd get together with your friend for a little brainstorming session if you haven't already--I'll bet you'll come up with some great things to do that, who knows, you might never have even explored before.

Hope your sweet 16 is a good one! :)

2.Rock Band, DDR or Guitar Hero Theme Party: Why not take the games you play with your friends to the next level? Setup a screen, rent some lighting and speakers and have a real rock championship to determine the best Rock Band, Guitar Hero, or DDR players. Setting up a tournament with brackets and themed prizes can make your sweet sixteen party a blast!

3.Outdoor Movie Party: Having your party outdoors can be awesome for you and your friends to take in the great summer weather and watch a movie together. You can rent all the equipment you need to have a massive screen in your backyard or by the pool so you can all watch a movie together or make a movie night out of it. Having games and party favors within the theme can help turn it into an awesome party.

4.Pool Party: Pools are a great way for your friends to relax and hang out in the pool. Hiring a DJ to keep the music going and to incorporate the pool into the evening with contests and games can be a really great party during the summer. You can setup a giant inflatable movie screen next to the pool to show the movies on, or have a volleyball net or basketball hoop if you don't already have one for the pool.

5.Roller Skating/Ice Skating Party: Having an activity to focus on throughout the night is important if you don't like being the center of attention the whole night.

6.Lake Party: If you have a lake or campground near you, these parties can be the most memorable parties and weekends of your life.

7.Scavenger Hunt: Having all of your friends show up ahead of time and surprising the birthday person with a party and then going out on a scavenger hunt can be an awesome party idea!

Once you've determined the type of party that you would like to have, then you start need to thinking about sweet sixteen decorations, djs, photography, and venues to host your party. These are all very important and finding the right combination can mean the difference between an amazing party and the worst night of your life!
