2 year old motor skills?

christa v

where should a child be for motor skills at age 2?
what games should he be plating to keep interactive?

Answer
My (just turned) 2-year old daughter likes games where you combine singing with activity (like Ring around the Rosies) she is also into playing "catch" with medium sized balls (the lightweight ones about the size of a basketball) and jumping/hopping. She loves trampolines and those jumping on those giant inflatable things whenever she gets the chance. She just learned to really hop and she is a fast runner now. She still falls sometimes when doing things, especially if she is distracted by something, but overall, any playful activity is good with her. Just running around at the park floats her boat. Kids seem to know what is appropriate for their age and they do things when they are ready, some things ahead of schedule, some things take more practice for them and may take them longer to get used to.

What should I do for my sixteenth birthday?

giant water trampolines on Canada - Special Needs Toys - Folding Trampoline
giant water trampolines image

Audrinna

I can't have a giant party or spend a ton of money. But I am turning 16, and it's pretty big! What should I do?

Answer
Well in my family, usually we skip the whole Sweet Sixteen thing and just throw a big graduation/18th birthday party.
But...
you can always have twenty or so good friends over for a bbq in your backyard -
grill, cake, sparklers, (if you have a pool/trampoline, some stuff could happen) if its hot out, and your birthday is later on, you could play water games. Rent a Slip n Slide or a bounce house(:

Or you and your girlfriends could maybe get your nails done and go out to dinner?
Or rent a room at your favorite restaurant and you and 3-4 close friends could go out for a celebratory meal!

What else should i do to my room?

alexis.[:

Okay, well I'm turning 13 in a few months and going to 8th grade pretty soon. My room isn't big nor is it small. Right now, i have a full size bed and getting a mini trampoline in a few days. Of course i have regular stuff in my room like, a dresser, 20 inch TV, chair, rug, etc. But what are somethings i could do to make my room look really cool. I already have signs and posters hanging up. Like, what are some things that you can't just find in a regular store like walmart that i can add to my room?

Answer
Decoate one wall entirely with cork tiles and paint it all in a really bold colour. Then paint a scene onto it, for example, clouds and stars...then you have a giant pinbooard where you can pin anything with damaging your walls, and no-one else has one like it!

Use unusal objects to create shelves...an old skateboard or painted driftwood....anything flat!!

Collect differrent and interesting shaped bottles and fill them up with water and lots of differenet food colourings. Put them on diplay...somewhere they won't get knocked over.

For Jan

I remember when I first met you
a preteen in the back yard
jumping on her trampoline
the epitome of youth, and joy, and love
tending to the pelicans
coming on to your dock
off the Banana River
the glee of seeing a manatee
and the dogs, you always had dogs

you grew up and excelled in school
and perfected a banking career
then, when you moved to Key West
your love of the water put you in your boat
and people flocked to your tours

cancer invaded your precious young life
though you fought it with a vengeance
first your breasts, we thought it was beat
but in time, it spread all over

the family has gathered,
your liver has failed
there's much love surrounding your bed
when you close your eyes
and I get that tragic call
I'll close my eyes as well

and see my "Janet Panet"
bouncing joyfully
back on her trampoline.

Answer
In answer to your question; always. That is why I so seldom share them.
It takes a special courage to be intentionally vulnerable. Your elegy for Jan
brought an image to me of a young woman reaching the apex of her rise and then achieving weightlessness, never again to fall. Thank you for your opened heart.

Where to go on vacation?

Angel

Okay. So in the summer for vacation, probably around the last week of may, beginning of june my family and i (4 people total) are planning to go on a trip...we each get to choose somewhere and we have to have a presentation on many things such as costs (limit:4,000 including flights, hotels, etc). I'm 14 so i don't want to be stuck with them the whole time and I'd like to have some time with just myself and other teens. I want to go somewhere where we won't just be sitting around all day, or just walking around on looking at different things- i want activities too! :D. I love to just have fun, talking, video games, random stuff! So please, if you have any ideas, it will surely help! Also, places in New York that might now only be fun for the family, but me also? Thanks!

Answer
Hey, I'm fifteen and went to Key West Florida last year when I was fourteen. If you are a fisher (which I am) the fishing is some of the best game in the world. However, if you do not like fishing, you can go on special programs for tourists where you can go snorkeling, swimming in the ocean, water trampoline, sun tanning on the boat, climb floatable ice burgs, and climb and slide down floatable slides. I did this with my sister and my mom and it was a blast (make sure you wear sunscreen though). Also, stay at the Casa Marina hotel, it is the best hotel on the island and the average room is a couple hundred dollars a night and try the Key Lime Pie at the Key Lime Pie factory (it is the bees knees).

You will probably get really good rates to Key West as it is really hot in the summer.

How can I lose about 20 pounds in about a month?

Faith

Well I'm a girl, almost 14 and I weigh 170 pounds. I understand that's over weight for someone who's my age, weight, and height (5'5). I don't look my weight, I look muscular thanks to about 10 years of dance. I took a brief break from dance from 6th to 8th grade but I'm looking to get back into it. Anyway, I would like to know ways to shed the pounds fast and safely. For one, I don't have much control over what I eat. Coming from a Caribbean background, I eat a lot of hearty meat and healthy sides (rice, greens, etc...). I heard drinking a glass of water before a meal will help you not eat a lot. Helpful tips are very much accepted :)

-Faith

Answer
You should weigh about 125, so that means losing over 40 lbs which you can do in 4 months.
Hereâs a good low-carb food/exercise plan:

Breakfast: Cook 9-grain cereal (from health food store) in water with rolled oats and wheat bran. Make a pot of it on weekends and nuke 1/2 cup each morning. Add low fat milk or yogurt, banana, walnuts and berries. Drink hot Ovaltine. Breakfast should be your largest meal of the day to raise blood sugar level which falls during the night.

Lunch: Egg, tuna or turkey ½ sandwich on multi-grain (not just whole wheat) bread with bean or alfalfa sprouts, yogurt, fresh fruit. If you had meat loaf for dinner, bring a meat loaf sandwich on whole grain bread (NO mayo). On cold days, a squatty thermos of hot chili, split peas with ham, or beef stew.

Snacks: Fresh (not canned) fruit. Nothing ever from a vending machine.

Dinner: salad with white meat chicken and fresh (not canned) veggies: tomatoes, 2 kinds of lettuce, 2 kinds of shredded cabbage, shredded or sliced carrots, alfalfa or bean sprouts, zucchini, green or red peppers, hard boiled eggs, brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, tofu, cottage cheese...Instead of dressing, squeeze 1/4 tomato over it.

Or homemade bean/vegetable soups; great way to recycle leftovers.
Or grilled fish with steamed veggies.

Or omelet: In blender, whip together eggs, tofu, cottage cheese, onions, garlic powder. Cook with mushrooms, chopped tomatoes and green or red peppers.

Avoid junk food, fast foods, pastries, desserts, anything with sugar (cancer cells feed on sugar), gluten, syrup (even canned fruit in syrup), peanut butter, fat/grease (pork, wieners, chops, bacon, salami, pizza, chips, fries), pasta, potatoes, ramen, popcorn, white bread, RICE, canned veggies, ice cream, soda, chips, tobacco, alcohol and coffee. No oil except olive and mac nut.

To keep your skin clear, drink water, tea, unsweetened veggie and fruit juice.

Join a gym; they have all the equipment and staff to show you how to use it to get the look you want to achieve, but you have to ask them. Much cheaper than buying your own equipment. Go hiking, biking, jogging, bowling, swimming, rowing, jump rope, play tennis, badminton, volleyball, soccer, jumping jacks, lift weights, trampoline? To tone your tummy, do sit ups, push ups, pull ups, leg lifts, butt raises and crunches.

For more energy, take Super B complex. Try appetite suppressants.

A few questions about going on vacation?

water trampoline miami on Water Trampoline SportsStuff Funstation 12' Inflatable | eBay
water trampoline miami image

Ceecee Bab

I'm going to Miami and on a cruise in like 2 weeks.

1. We are driving to Miami, and then we are leaving to the cruise from Miami, but will our car be safe while on the cruise?

2. The cruise will be going to the Bahamas and that's what I'm most excited about, I wanna go on the beach there, but when the ship ports, will we be able to easily get to the beach from the port? If not how do we go to the beach?

3. We will also be hanging out in Miami in a couple days, do you think I'll meet cool people around my age (17) and will I meet people on the cruise? It's only a three day cruise?

4. My sister is 14 and I heard the ship has a kid club but I don't think they allow 14 year olds, will she be able to get into the club?

Any answers are appreciated, thanks.
*Miami for a couple days -- question 3 correction

Answer
1. Im sure your car will be safe. A lot of people leave their car there and I don't think I've ever heard of an incident.

2. Getting to the beach will be VERY easy. I've been to the Bahamas before and just like everywhere else a cruise ship stops at, there will be plenty of taxis there. There's always a few beaches to go to, so if you dont know which to pick, just ask the taxi driver which one he recommends or is the best. And ask how much it is to get there before you get in the taxi. And every beach that you go to charges an entrance fee per person and fees to use the chairs, umbrellas and bathrooms, so don't be surprised. And if they have water activities and trampolines; another fee. Make sure you guys have a lot of single dollars and smaller bills.

3. I'm sure you'll find people to hang out with. I'm 17 too, almost 18, and everytime I go on a cruise I find people to hang out with. It sucks that your going on a 3 day though, the longer the better.

4. You sister will have her own club to go to. There's a club for every age group.

How many calories should I consume each day?

My resting metabolic rate is around 1,300 calories.
I am 20 years old, female.
5'7" 137 pounds
I run 30 minutes every other day and jump on the trampoline for 20 minutes every day.
I am trying to lose 7 pounds

How many calories? I was thinking around 1300 since that is my resting metabolic rate?

Answer
if you want to have a healthy lifestyle then you would hope to eat about 2000 but of
varied food types- mainly fruit and veg and lots of water. Chewing gum is also good for diets as it helps your body think you are wrong although you aren't swallowing! hopee this helps :)

What is easiest to do on a trampoline, front flips or back flips?

Morten S

I'm just interested, because i know i can do a front flip on a trampoline, and personally i thing a back flip looks a lot cooler. I can do back flips off a diving board, but i'm too scared to do it on a trampoline, so i was just wondering if anyone could tell me which is easiest?

Answer
back flips are easiest physically, front flips are easiest mentally.

every year when it gets warm enough to jump on the trampoline, i go to a train bridge nearby and make sure i can still do backflips before i try them. i get too scared to do em on a trampoline first (the train bridge is about as high as a four story building so you'd think id be more afraid of that, but there is water at the bottom so thats a negative)

Eastern Carribean Cruise... shore excursions?

annamauria

Have you any ideas about fun excursions on Nassau, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas or Half Moon Cay? I really want to know if any of these places have a water trampoline...like one that is out in the ocean that you have to swim to? Or any other interesting ideas that aren't posted on the cruise website...THANKS A BUNCH! (PS. I always choose a best answer!)

Answer
I don't know anything about a water trampoline, but you are about to see some of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean.
On St Thomas head straight for Megan's Bay, beautiful calm aqua/blue water. if you are into snorkeling go to Coki Beach. St Thomas is a shopping mecca, bring credit cards.

Half Moon Cay is a 55 acre private island. All kinds of things to do, snorkel, scuba, watersports, fishing, stingray adventure, nature trails, horseback riding on the beach into the surf. There is a bar and a buffet pavilion there too.

Nassau/Paradise Island, take a cab over to Atlantis and check that resort out. The water in the Bahamas is also calm and pretty.

Puerto Rico you must go to Historic Old San Juan District
Also the Castillo San Felipe del Morro.

It's hard to suggest because you don't have much time in the ports to really go far. My suggestions are things you can do that won't take you too far from the port and the ship leaves you behind. That is the only advantage to taking the ship's excursion. They won't leave you behind,

enjoy your cruise)

I've always wondered what happens when someone shoots a gun into the air - - ?

Azeri

Obviously the type of firearm and bullet, the angle the gun is pointed and the speed of the wind and density of the atmosphere are all factors, but generally, at some point the bullet stops going up and starts responding to gravity and falling back to earth, so I've always wondered how fast it's going as it falls and if it were to land on someone's head, if it would cause damage (or on a windshield. . .) And I wonder how far away it is when it comes down. I wonder if anyone has ever been hit on the head by a random falling bullet. Any comments or responses or anecdotal stories would be amusing and appreciated. (does anyone else out there think about these kind of things???)
Thanks all, for the answers! Glad to know others think about these things. And good luck to you (Bob) with the water vapour collection idea. Sometimes I wonder just how many more principles and inventions are yet to be discovered and invented.

Answer
4-6 inches into the ground?-nice. projectiles can be analysed in terms of there horizontal velocity and there vertical velocity. basically when u shoot a bullet horizontally the horizontal velocity will be decreasing due to air resistance and the vertical velocity will be increasing due to gravity (which is always acting, not just at some arbitrary time). If u shoot a bullet upwards it will only have a upwards velocity which is decreasing because of gravity and air resistance up until a point where it just stop- like when u are at you peak of a jump on a trampoline. It will then just free fall continuing to get faster until it reaches terminal velocity then just continue falling at that speed. this is the basic idea anyway. Just a thing to note is that when u launch a bullet from a gun it spins so that the poi9nted bit is always facing forwards. But when it is falling from the sky it wont have any spin left so it will tumble liek a badly designed paper plane try to fly through the air and will have a more air resistance. As for stories im pretty boring so i dont have any of them in my arsenal as of yet. Of course other people think of things like this, thats how many of the worlds greatest inventions get made.
What im thinking about is, when jets start flying at supersonic speeds (speed of sound, 343m/s) they leave this cool sort of triangular shaped mist around them (water vapour) which is a result of very high pressure water that is just condensing to form water droplets. If you had a device with a arm that spins super fast and condenses the water inside the vessel and then collects the water at the bottom for you, to drink mayb? which would be useful in a desert for example. anyway thats what im gonna spend my time researching at some point in time.

should i soak it in water?plssssssss help!!!

Answer
Use Wool Mix (Used to be Martha Gardener's Wool Mix - but I think they renamed it). Directions are on the bottle.

The main thing is to make sure that you dry it flat. Don't hang it up. Mum used to dry ours on the trampoline. I use a bra bag pegged across the top of a clothes airer to make a platform to dry it on.

To be on a diving team in college, do you have to be a really good swimmer?

***Big Blu

also, i am a gymnast and cheerleader, do you think those abilities to flip and twist will help in diving?
also is it frightening as a beginner?

Answer
No, you don't have to be a top-level swimmer to dive, although you should be comfortable in the water.

As divers, we used to cross-train on trampolines, so I guess the same principle would apply going the other way. If you already have good motor co-ordination from gymnastics and cheerleading, doing the actual movements in diving should come real easy. You'll need to work on the takeoffs, but once you're in the air it'll be similar. You'll just have to get used to 'landing' on your head! ;-)

The only part of diving that I ever found scary was going up to the highest platforms (7.5 and 10 m, 24 and 33 ft), but that's because I don't much like heights. I was usually OK off the 5 m though, and none of the (junior, u18) competitions I ever entered had people going off the 10 m. I doubt you'll get sent up the top boards as a beginner, anyway, but if you've mastered the moves on the lower boards, then why not? It's not as if you hit the water that much faster from 7.5 as from 5 m, or from 10 as from 7.5 m.

Good luck with it.

What is the best water trampoline? 10 points for best answer!?

gymnast

my family is buying a house on a lake and i have always dreamed of having a water trampoline. My birthday is in july and i was hoping to use this to my advantage. I am a competitive gymnast and i need the most jumping room for under $400. i would prefer a new one but i know that is hard with my price range. 8 feet of the actual trampoline part will not be enough for me. My dad is hard to convince he needs to have lots of research to even think of buying one. To maximize my chances of actually getting one i need to do a ton of research so he doesn't have to, so please add links. Thank you for your help!

Answer
The following is a list of many of the frequently asked questions about water trampolines.

Q: What is the difference between a water trampoline and a water bouncer?

A: A water trampoline and a water bouncer have a few distinct differences. Water bouncers tend to be smaller, less expensive and also do not produce as high of jumps. This is because water bouncers have netting that is attached directly to the inflation tube whereas water trampolineâs netting is attached by springs to a frame which allows for higher bouncing and can support heavier weight loads.

Q: How do you inflate a water trampoline or bounce platform?

A: The most common method for inflation is using a shop vacuum as they have a high air flow rates. The shop vac should attach to the adapter that comes with most water trampolines, water bouncers and accessories. There are also pumps available for inflation of your water trampoline of choice. We do NOT recommend using an air compressor to inflate your water trampoline as over inflation can damage the tube.

Q: What type of warranty comes with water trampolines?

A: The warranty differs depending on which brand of water trampoline you choose. Most brands come with at least a one year warranty as long as the product has not been used for commercial purposes. We suggest you check with the bradnâs home webpage to find out the specific warranty.

Q: How much and how long does it take to ship a water trampoline?

A: Right now we are offering free shipping on all water trampolines. Shipping will take approximately 7-10 business days. For more information on this check out our shipping page located at the bottom of our homepage.

Q: Do all Rave products need to be anchored and if so how?

A: Water bouncers and water trampolines do need to be anchored. The smaller water bouncers should be anchored with a simple D-ring anchor or a weight over 20 pounds will suffice. Water trampolines require a weight of over 60 pounds and bell anchors are recommended. Additional information is provided in the ownerâs manual that is provided with your purchase.

Q: Should bouncers wear life vests?

A: Yes, safety is key in enjoying any water trampoline or water bouncer. No matter how deep the water is life vests should be worn at all times.

Q: Where is the form for the free attachment located on your site?

A: There is a link to the form for a free attachment located on the homepage of the website in the top right corner.

Q: Can water trampolines be left out in the water?

A: Most people leave water trampolines out for an entire season and take them out during the colder months. Two things to consider are local regulations about anchoring in your area and the wind speeds around your area. Water trampolines or other products should not be anchored in the water during wind speeds exceeding 15 miles per hour.

Q: Are water trampolines repairable or patchable?

A: Most product come with a repair kit and instructions on how to patch up holes. The kit contains adhesive and extra piece of fabric along with a comprehensive instruction manual. Other parts may need to be replaced in time such as springs or the jump surface.

Q: Can water trampolines be used on land?

A: Yes, but only on grassy even surfaces. it should not but used on gravel or rocks. A water trampoline will not have the bouncing abilities of a land trampoline because it is meant to be used in the water and the tube will absorb most of the energy.

Q: How deep should the water be when using a water trampoline?

A: A water trampoline or water bouncer should never be used in less than six feet of water in order to prevent any injuries.

Q: How long is total set up time?

A: Total set up time ranges depending on which product you purchase. Water bouncers require only inflation which typically takes a maximum of thirty minutes while water trampolines can take a bit longer because the assembly of the fame and jumping surface is required.

I have provided a link to a plethora of information on water-trampolines and bouncers.

mommy to a

My daughter will not be one year for 3 more months BUT I have saved up money since she was born to get her a few nice gifts for her b-day ( January ) and I would like to beat the Christmas rush so I will probably shop sometime this month or next....I just don't have a clue what she'll be doing or what most 1 year olds are into...help! = ) LOL
Thanx

Answer
Lol you're almost as bad as me - my son's 1st is just after xmas and I've almost finished shopping for both now lol!

In summer I went to my friends daughters 1st birthday party and pinched some of the ideas lol. I'll tell you what I've got my son so far - some of it is probably a bit advanced for 12 months but will hopefully be able to be used in the coming months after. I've got him a couple of ride ons - one tiny little spiderman car thing he sits on and rolls along with his feet, and one old fashioned giraffe wooden sit-on with wheels from vertbaudet, and then a little furry rocking horse (all those were listed suitable for 12 months +). Also I've got him a cute hobby horse which he probably won't be able to use until he's walking steadily but never mind! Then I've got him some big plastic trucks and stuff, a phone where you pick it up and every button makes a different sound, a paddling pool, a sand-and-water table with a little plastic watering can and bucket and fork etc. Three big stuffed animals, a little push along crane thing, some skittles, balls, bed time reading books, a little inflatable ball pool, a wooden toy clock, a wooden activity table with those coloured wires with wooden beads on the top, an abacus on one side and some bits you play with on the other sides, and also a little mini trampoline suitable for 12 months plus, it's only tiny (that's an idea I stole lol) a couple of foot wide and it's hardly bouncy at all and only raised slightly off the floor, with a big handle, I know my son will love that as he's always holding on to the bar of his cot and jumping up and down on the mattress and the girl who's party it was loved it! Oh and there's this plastic toy machine thing which blows little balls up into the air for you to catch. That's all I can think of! The rest I'm going to just get a few more smaller teddies and stuff and some little bits and bobs. Good luck, enjoy shopping! :-)

Fun things to in Mill Creek WA, or Everett WA?

Bella

I'm really bored and my friend is coming over. We want to do something fun in Mill Creek or Everett or something around those areas. Like a lake, fun pools, idk something like that. We don't want to do boring normal stuff.

Answer
Have you tried the indoor trampoline place yet? It's on the Bothell-Everett Highway south of Mill Creek:

For lakes you have Martha Lake on 164th (small swimming area, difficult parking)
and Silver Lake (larger beach and swimming area)
Pools - there is an outdoor pool at McCollum Park (on 132nd) - nothing special there, but it's outdoors
Forest Park in Everett has an indoor pool with a rope swing, inflatable obstacle course and more
Lynnwood pool has a lazy river and two inner tube rides)

And there is always Jetty Beach - take a small ferry across the Everett Marina waterway over to Jetty Island - big sandy beach with warm(er) water, lots of kite boarding to watch etc. It doesn't feel like you are still in the city at all.
